Liver spots are a common but unattractive sign of aging.

Liver spots are nothing more then adult freckles, these yellowish-brown spots and are commonly caused by overexposure to the sun. But because some skin cancers such as melanoma may look like liver spots, you should ask your doctor to examine your regularly. Less effective treatment options for liver spots include over-the-counter skin-bleaching creams such as hydroquionnone acid, alpha hydroxy acids, Trichloroacetic acid (a chemical peel). and Tretinoin in preparations such as (Retin-A, Renova, Stieva-A and Rejuva-A) to gradually lighten the area of skin but results may take several months. Alternative treatments may include  cryotherapy (freezing), skin sanding, laser therapy, IPL and chemical peels,  but these options often irritate the skin and leave white spots and even scars.
