Your not alone. As many as one in three people suffer from Eczema.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a recurring, non-infectious, inflammatory skin condition affecting one in three people at some stage throughout their lives. The condition is most common in people with a family history of an atopic disorder, including asthma or hay fever. The skin becomes red, dry, itchy and scaly, and in severe cases, may weep, bleed and crust over, causing the sufferer much discomfort. Sometimes the skin may become infected. The condition can also flare and subside for no apparent reason. There can be different causes for eczema. Occasionally it can be an allergic reaction to some type of chemical or other substance. The cause for the most common form (atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis) is unknown.

Although eczema affects all ages, it usually appears in early childhood (in babies between two-to-six months of age) and disappears around six years of age. In fact, more than half of all eczema sufferers show signs within their first 12 months of life and 90 per cent of people develop eczema before the age of five. Although most children grow out of the condition, a small percentage may experience severe eczema into adulthood. The condition can not only afflict the individual sufferer, but also their family, friends and health practitioners. Eczema can’t be cured, but it can be managed.

There're many causes for dermatitis. It depend on the particular type of eczema that a person has.

Atopic eczema is thought to be a hereditary condition, being genetically linked. People with Atomic Eczema can become sensitive to allergens in the environment that are harmless to others. With atopy there is an excessive reaction by the immune system producing inflamed, irritated and sore skin. Associated atopic conditions include asthma and hayfever. That's because people with atopic dermatitis, asthma or hay fever are born with too many reactive inflammatory cells in the skin. When something triggers them, they don’t "turn off" as they should.

Other types of eczema are caused by irritants such as chemicals and detergents, allergens such as nickel, and yeast growths. In later years eczema causes are blood circulatory problems in the legs. The causes of certain types of eczema remain to be explained, though links with environmental factors and stress are being explored. Among the other causes of eczema are the ingested allergens: some foods, medications, and beverages. The most common foods that can cause a reaction are milk, eggs, and wheat. Other foods such as peanuts, corn, soya, some acidic foods, fish, salicylates and some preservatives are also known to be an eczema cause. Keep in mind, a reaction can occur just by coming in contact with a food substance. It doesn't always have to be ingested.

Environmental factors play a big part in eczema. The house dust mite is the main environmental trigger. Dust and dust-forming objects can worsen the rash. Other allergen triggers can be pollens and pets. Although there is no known cure for eczema and it can be a lifelong condition, treatment can offer symptom control.

Dinsdale's breakthrough Eczema Treatments helps dramatically sooth Eczema symptoms and prevent future breakouts. It is important to seek professional medical advice before using any medication - whether over-the-counter or prescription - to determine its side-effects. Because eczema skin is often broken, it places the sufferer at risk of contracting skin infections. Professional medical advice should be sought at the first sign of any infection.

Some researchers believe that allergens, like house dust mites, are significant triggers; others believe that genetic predisposition to eczema is a more important contributing factor, as most people with eczema have a family history of the condition. Eczema can’t be cured, but it can be managed.
