It is just as bad to center your diet on one food as it is to eliminate it entirely. The trick to dieting successfully is to have as much variety as possible in the foods you eat. This will keep you from getting bored and reaching for something that isn’t as healthy to eat. Luckily there are so many fantastically healthy foods out there that keeping your variety vast shouldn’t be a problem. Any diet that tells you to concentrate on just one item (like the juice diet) is forcing you to rob yourself of essential vitamins and nutrients. That’s not very healthy is it?
You might’ve noticed that portions in today’s meals are actually bigger than ever before. We are conditioned to look for and consume larger portions, so if they are bigger, it doesn’t really bother us. Most of the time, we are used to two or three portions on one plate so that is why we don’t notice. The American Medical Association is actually a good reference point to determine how big each portion should be for individuals. Follow their guidelines for portion control. You’ll be surprised at how small they seem at first but you’ll get used to it and soon what you used to be accustomed to will feel gluttonous.
