What Is Acne?

Acne vulgaris, more simply referred to as acne, is an inflammatory skin condition that effects most people at some stage in their life. In fact, it is the most common skin disorder seen by doctors , effecting over 90% of people in this part of the world.  Acne can cause significant emotional distress as well as physical discomfort. It is not know exactly what cause's acne but it is believed that it is a combination of several factors; hormonal irregularity leading to excessive oil secretion, vitamin deficiency, alcohol, hot foods and stress. Another important factor is heredity or genetics.

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that causes pimples, it begins at puberty and can persist for several years and will usually return between 40 and 50. Acne result from the build up of skin cells that block pores and hair follicles, commonly on the face, back, arms and chest.  Acne lesions are referred to as pimples, spots or zits.

Acne begins at puberty and can persist for several years. There are several forms of acne, usually beginning from what is known as prepubertal acne - occurring in adolescence. Acne vulgaris is the most common form of acne, resulting in both whiteheads and blackheads. Cystic acne is another common form of acne that results in deep pus-filled pimples that take several days to clear. There are several less common forms diseases that are both rare and particularly serious, including Acne Conglobata, Acne Fulminans, Pyoderma Faciale and Gram-Negative Folliculitis
